Frequently asked questions
Good questions are always welcome.
Here are a few answers to help you understand the process, the partnership, and what working together could look like.
Is hiring a private college counselor worth it?+
For many families, a private college counselor is worth the investment because personalized guidance can replace uncertainty and last-minute stress with a thoughtful, manageable plan. Seen and Accepted provides individualized strategy, expert feedback, accountability, and steady support for both students and parents. We do not promise admission to a particular college; we help students make informed choices, submit stronger and more authentic applications, and find colleges where they can genuinely succeed.
How are you different from a school counselor?+
School counselors are essential partners who often serve hundreds of students and manage many responsibilities. Independent counseling adds individualized time for strategy, reflection, writing support, and consistent project management. Our work complements—not replaces—the school team.
What is included in your college counseling services?+
Seen and Accepted offers comprehensive college counseling tailored to the student’s grade level and goals. Support may include academic and extracurricular planning, interest and career exploration, college research, balanced college-list development, application strategy, activity-list and résumé guidance, essay coaching, interview preparation, deadline management, financial-aid and scholarship guidance, and decision support after admission. Families receive a clear plan, regular communication, and individualized guidance throughout the process.
When should we begin working with a college counselor?+
Families can begin as early as 9th grade, when there is time to explore interests, make thoughtful academic choices, and build meaningful experiences without rushing. Students who begin in 10th or 11th grade can still create a clear strategy, and seniors may receive focused application-year support when space permits. The right starting point depends on the student’s goals, needs, and current stage.
Can you help my student build a balanced college list?+
Yes. Building a balanced college list is one of the most important parts of our college counseling process. We look beyond rankings to evaluate academic fit, admission likelihood, cost and financial aid, location, campus culture, student support, major and career opportunities, and the student’s personal priorities. The result is a carefully researched mix of likely, target, and reach colleges that the student would be genuinely happy to attend.
Do you work with international and Third Culture students?+
Yes. Seen and Accepted supports international and Third Culture students applying to universities in the United States and around the world, including the UK, Canada, Europe, and Asia. Our counselors help families navigate different educational systems, testing and application requirements, deadlines, cultural context, and financial considerations while ensuring each student’s experiences are understood clearly and presented authentically.
Do you work with neurodivergent students?+
Yes. Our individualized college counseling process is designed to recognize how each student thinks, communicates, organizes work, and experiences the application process. We help neurodivergent students build on genuine strengths, manage tasks in a workable way, communicate their stories with confidence, and identify colleges where the academic environment, community, and available support can help them thrive.
How involved are parents in the process?+
Parents are valued partners, while students remain at the center. We establish communication expectations early, share meaningful updates, and create space for family decisions without taking ownership away from the student.
How often will we meet?+
Meeting cadence is tailored to the student’s stage. Earlier sessions are more spaced out and focused on planning and exploration. As junior and senior year approach, the pace increases; during application season, contact becomes frequent and detailed. Families also have ongoing access for questions between sessions.
Will you edit or write my student’s essays?+
Our counselors coach students through brainstorming, structure, clarity, and revision, but the ideas and words remain theirs. The goal is an essay that is polished enough to be effective and personal enough to sound unmistakably like the student.
Can I use AI or ChatGPT to write my college essay?+
AI can be useful for organizing a schedule, generating questions, or helping a student understand a concept, but it should not write the college essay. Admissions readers want the student’s own thinking, experiences, and voice, and colleges may have specific policies about generative AI. Seen and Accepted helps students use technology responsibly while developing original essays that remain unmistakably their own.
Do you guarantee admission to a particular college?+
No ethical counseling company can guarantee an admission outcome. We do promise honest guidance, careful strategy, thoughtful feedback, and a process that helps each student present their strongest authentic application.
What does counseling cost?+
Our engagements are designed for comprehensive support rather than hourly work. Investment details are shared during the initial conversation after we understand the student’s stage and goals. Florida-focused students can choose the flat-rate Sunshine Package beginning as early as 9th grade; application-year guidance is also available to seniors applying outside Florida.
